Big Top Quilt Along: Week 4
Our Big Tops are really starting to come together! This week we’re foundation paper piecing (that’s FPP to quilty folks) the fans. If you are new to FPP, this is a great introduction. Unlike some more complicated patterns, there aren’t any crazy angles and you don’t need to align any seams. I chose to make this section FPP to cut down on some of the templates. Also, because there are nine small sections in each fan, the precision of paper piecing helps you get the right sized finished fan section—which really helps when you are putting everything together.
Remember to post your photos with #bigtopQAL to be entered for this week’s prize—it’s a really great one from Fabricstork—a half yard of five Liberty of London prints! Aren’t they gorgeous?
Next week, we’re finally putting our wedges together. I think this is my favorite part of making this quilt top. I just love how it all comes together—plus there’s something about that pie shape this is so appealing.
I hope you have fun with the FPP!
