Big Top Quilt Along: How to Join
The Big Top quilt is a super fun make, but it’s a little quirky. Not sure how to make a quilt from wedges instead of squares? Not too confident with sewing curves or foundation paper piecing? Then this Quilt Along is for you! Are you ready to join in? Here’s all you need to know to participate and to be eligible for some really great prizes!
The Quilt Along starts June 22 and ends July 31. Over six weeks, we’ll make the quilt top step-by-step. I’ll be making another Big Top right along with you and I can’t wait! I think this next one might be my best yet…
Each week, I’ll post a story here with a video and photos that explain each step in the process.
Along the way, there will be some awesome prizes from some of my favorite quilt shops!

The Schedule
Posts will go live at 9:00 am each Monday throughout the QAL.
Week 1. June 22-June 28. Fabric selection and planning your project. I’ll walk you through some design ideas and talk about how to plan your project. This week is all about color, value, pattern and making your Big Top quilt uniquely yours.
Week 2. June 29-July 5. Cutting your pieces. There are some unusual things about cutting the pieces for the Big Top and this week we’ll get everything organized so you can get sewing.
Week 3. July 6-12. Sewing curves. The Big Top has some interesting curves and this week we’ll go over the basics skills you need to feel confident to handle all the curves.
Week 4. July 13-19. Foundation paper piecing (FPP). The Big Top has one section that is made using the FPP method. If you’re new to FPP, this is a great introduction to the technique. No crazy angles or tiny pieces here—and there will be a video to guide you.
Week 5. July 20-26. Making your wedge. The wedge is the basic building block of the Big Top and this week we’ll make the 8 wedges that make up the quilt top.
Week 6. July 29-31. Assembling the quilt top. The Big Top has one more trick up its sleeve and this week I’ll walk you through pulling it all together.
The Prizes!
Each week, I’ll pick a winner from the Instagram posts for that week’s topic. Cottoneer, Fabric Stork and Lamb and Loom have some fantastic prizes lined up and there will some other mystery prizes along the way!
