Hooray! I just finished a new pattern for my Etsy shop! I’ve made this quilt about ten times and I really love the design. The design was inspired by a photo I found on Pinterest of some beautiful modern dominoes. It’s so simple and even though there is a lot of white it feels colorful. I’ve found that primary colors work really well, but I’ve also made a pink and green version that is very pretty.
The pattern is great for beginners because it does not require precise piecing. There are only nine pieced blocks and the rest of the quilt is made of large pieces of the background fabric. You can definitely finish this project in a weekend–especially if you machine sew your binding.
Here are some other versions in different palettes. I might make one with a dark color background next–maybe navy? It would also make a really pretty table runner–hmm. I think I may have my next project!
In my class for the Quilted Adventure online retreat, I am teaching how to make this super cute (and easy!) baby quilt. If you are a beginner, this is a great first baby quilt. The piecing is very simple and un-fussy, and you are only making nine blocks. The only part that is not so great for beginners is that the pattern requires small pieces of fabric in a bunch of colors. If you’re new to quilting, you might not have a big stash of scraps, but fear not!
I am offering a chance to win a free domino quilt kit with a coordinated set of correctly sized scraps in a variety of colors and neutrals to the first twenty people to register for Quilted Adventures using the link below! I’ll have kits in four selected color ways to choose from in my Etsy shop once the retreat goes live. But, if you register now, I’ll enter you to win a free kit of your choice. That’s a one in twenty chance of winning all those lovely colors!

My goal is to have at least three finished quilts in my Etsy shop all the time but each time I’ve made one of these domino quilts it sells. So I keep making more—makes sense, right? It’s been really interesting to make the same quilt over again. I’ve played around with the color palette and made improvements to my technique. Which is a good thing because I’m going to be teaching a class on this quilt soon. I can’t give details just yet, but I’m really excited!
I think maybe after the class I’ll be done with this design for a while. Do you make the same pattern more than once? I’d love to hear from you!
I just finished another version of this “domino” quilt. I rarely make the same quilt twice, but this pattern is so much fun. It feels colorful and playful but still sort of minimal. I used a little more orange in this version and I really like the warm and sunny palette of this one. I went with yellow binding, again. I think the yellow looks great with the backing fabric (a Zen Chic print). I am liking yellow more and more these days!
This quilt is for sale in my Etsy shop.
